Maria Lucia Mattos has pursued a wide range of occupations in her career. She has worked, often concurrently, as a make-up artist and make-up designer. The common thread amongst these has been her unerring eye for details, impeccable execution and the development of a unique and highly individual style. She is often hired to do make-up design for films, TV Soap Operas, and theatrical plays. She has a unique ability to work in groups and feels very comfortable in sharing her ideas with others in her creative team.
Painting and drawing since childhood, Maria is a self taught make-up artist. She moved to New York to pursue drawing, painting and photography. Initially, she began designing her own line of leather, suede clothes and handbags, developing a dynamic, colorful expressive style in the world of fashion. At the urging of film making classes in NY, Maria transfered her expertise as a fashion designer into make-up design where she used the same set of skills: a highly developed sense of color and rigor in line and composition.
Maria Lucia has worked with print media as well as music videos and commercials with photographers such as Stefan Schmid, Marcel Hartman and Florian Geiss , and directors such as Spike Jonze, Jake Scott, Tarsem, Marcus Nispel. Her clients have included Gatorade, Nike, Globo TV Network, Amex and many others. Maria's editorial work has been featured in Marie Claire, Elle, and GQ amongst others.
